REVIEW - 4 Stars

Chasing Wicked, the first book in the Wicked series by Kathryn L. James was an unpredictable, drama filled, second chance love story. Torn apart as teenagers, Stone Mitchell and Avery Anderson are thrown together again a number of years later and come to find out that the sparks are still there. This was an emotionally charged and extremely hot read. I remember thinking while reading that I did not see a certain storyline part coming and I liked that I was surprised as much as I was.
Stone was a super alpha character, and a little bit of an asshole, but not so big of a one that I disliked him. There’s a lot of backstory that we get throughout the story that made me understand him more and why he acted the way that he did. Avery is no wilting flower either, even if she is still trying to find herself and make peace with the past. The years following their separation have not been necessarily easy, but she is making her life work. Even if there is a gaping hole in it that she refuses to recognize.
Chasing Wicked was an all-around good story, but I felt that it rambled a little bit in places. It was a good length book as well, but it probably could have been a little shorter. It felt that there was extra unneeded drama added to lengthen the story which resulted in 4 stars and not 5.  Even with the unneeded added drama, I still did enjoy reading the story. I liked that there were surprises and enjoyed most of the twists in the storyline. I felt that Stone and Avery really were made for one another.
As the first book in the series, I think that Chasing Wicked set the tone for future books to come. Stone’s two brothers are set to get their own books. We didn’t get to see much of them in this book, but with Stone’s personality I’m sure they will be anything but boring. I hope to see more of Avery’s best friend Lindsey in future stories as well. There seems to much a story there as well.
A four star read by Kathryn L. James.

Excerpt

Stone Mitchell—my worst nightmare. The muscles of his back rippled against his tight-fitting black t-shirt like he’d been molded into it. He had thick brown hair that was made of silk, softer than silk…my hands remembered exactly how soft. In a complete stupor, I let go of the handle of the suitcase, causing it to crash against the tiled floor. He spun around, tossed a dish towel over his shoulder, and froze mid-spin. Icy topaz eyes met my disgusted glare head on. “What the hell are you doing here?” he bit out. “Stone…” My heart screamed for me to bolt, but I didn’t take a single step. “I asked you what the hell you’re doing here.” He tossed the kitchen towel across the countertop and folded his arms across this chest. “I-I’m supposed to be here. Why are you here?” “This is the last place you’re supposed to be.” This had to be the most jacked-up karma in the world. Nausea rolled into the pit of my stomach and my nails dug into the palms of my hand. The cocky bastard wore the same expression he’d worn all those years ago. “Dovie sent me.” My voice was barely above a whisper. “Why the hell would my grandmother send you to my house?” Behind him, foamy liquid spilled over the rim of the stockpot, filling the room with popping sounds as the contents ran onto the burner and sizzled. “Shit!” He whirled around, quickly moving it. My mind formulated a hundred different scenarios to rationalize what was happening, but one thought screamed louder than the rest: Get the hell out of here. I seized the opportunity, grabbed my bag, and ran like hell. Bolting out of the house, I took the steps off the deck two at a time, my suitcase bouncing all around behind me. Halfway down, wind whipping my hair against my face, I heard the door slam above then heavy footsteps closing in behind me. Sheets of rain blew underneath the house, stinging my skin. Adrenaline fueled my feet as I reached the sedan’s door handle, seconds away from leaving the biggest mistake of my life behind. “Why are you here? No way did Gammy send you here,” he called out as he kept walking toward me like a predator. “I’m here because she offered me this place for the summer. I don’t know… She didn’t send me here knowing you were here.” She couldn’t have. My Dovie would never have done that to me…or to him. Only steps away, he showed no sign of stopping, so I spun back around to make my great escape. He caged in my body against the car, not touching me, but so close that if I moved at all, I would land against either his arms or chest. He pressed the frame of the door closed. “Get away from me. I’m leaving, and I just want to forget I ever saw you.” “Liar. You won’t forget. I don’t think you’ve ever forgotten…” He leaned in closer, stopping when his mouth was against my ear. “You’ve never forgotten how you whispered my name into my ear, over and over again.” His words repulsed me. I hated him. “I remember you being the biggest mistake of my life.” “Turn around.” “Go to hell.” “I earned my free ticket to hell a long time ago. Turn around, Avery.” The way my name rolled off his tongue caused my breath to catch; it always had. I despised the fact that he still possessed the power to make my traitorous body react. He was and always would be toxic. Forbidden. Poison. I’d had a taste, and it had nearly killed me. Now, I knew better than to bite the apple. He pressed his chest against my back, and old memories trespassed into my mind. No matter how hard I’d tried, I’d never forgotten the last night we’d spent together. Under an audience of a million twinkling stars, we had slept on a blanket on the edge of Cotton Wilson’s private lake. That night had been beautiful. Perfect. Two days later, Stone was long gone, and thanks to social media and gossiping texts, the people in my small community knew why before I did. “Leave me alone,” I whispered. “I can’t do that. There’s a bad storm coming with high winds and a lot of rain. I know for a fact that the only two motels are full, and by now the ferry has already closed.” There had to be somewhere else for me to stay. A shelter. A church. Hell, even in my car. Another large gust of wind sailed through the air, knocking over the trash bin by the driveway and causing a piece of some sort of metal to blow down the street. He placed his hand on my upper arm in a gentle touch. “Come inside, Avery, before you end up getting hurt.” Teaser TURN YOU ON

5* #Review #Giveaway This isn't Fair, Baby by @KristiWebster @IndieSagePR

This Isn’t Fair, Baby

War & Peace Series #6 by K. Webster Publication Date: April 18, 2017 Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Dark Romance

***This is the sixth book in the series. First five books must be read in order to fully understand this story line.***
The king in my world fell and a new one slid into place. He wasn’t just. He wasn’t FAIR. He was cruel and hateful and twisted. But I had this black king figured out. Or so I thought. The game became complicated because my black king had some new moves and one of those involved my heart. Hope trickled in for the briefest of moments. That is, until my black king and my heart sided against me. Those two didn’t play FAIR. They used me as their pawn in a bigger game—a game I didn’t know how to play. The laws changed. I didn’t play by their rules anymore, for the queen makes up her own. I am not a pawn. I am not theirs to use and abuse. I belong to nobody. There are new players on the board and they don’t play FAIR either. But the white king does know how to treat his queen. And together, they will make them pay. All’s FAIR in love and war, right? Definitely not this time. ***Warning*** This Isn’t Fair, Baby is a dark romance. Extreme sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. If you are sensitive to dark themes, then this story is not for you.

V is for Vengeance
You don't mess with Queen Vee

Holy Shit!  I had to think for a bit because I couldn't process everything I had just read.  K. Webster you are evil, demented, and psycho...Gah I love you!  I have no idea where you go when you write this, but I want to be in your mind when you do.  I think this one is my favorite, no the first one, no the second, no….I love them all.  They are so enticing that you can’t help but crave them.  They are like a drug and I need a fix all the time!  The characters are complex and developed, the storylines are woven together to fit like a unique puzzle.  IT is BRILLIANT!!  Get ready because Kristi is about to shock the hell out of you.  I was reading and then all of a sudden I was “wait, what?  What the hell is going on?”  Some twists that I was not expecting!

This book is divided into three parts, I can’t go into to much detail because this book is full of spoilers.  But I will say, it picks up right where book five left off.  If you haven’t read the previous books, you need too, so you can fully appreciate and understand the characters and storyline.  Everything weaves together into one giant cluster!  It is AWESOME!

This Isnt Fair, Baby continues to follow Vee’s story.  She’s been held captive by Esteban, but is she really his captive?   She seems to have develop a need, a lust for him.  He is her black king, the demon in her life, until her love comes to save her.  Oscar.  The one that Vee truly loves, right?  OMG...I just can’t even I was all over the place with this book.  I couldn’t believe the horror that Vee was going through, but will only last so long until she decides to exact her revenge.  Vee may have started as a pawn in the game, but damn did she become the puppet master.  She wasn’t going to go down without a fight, only one victor right?  No one rules Queen Vee, no one!  Unless the White King can tame the queen?  Enter Daddy Diego...oh lord!  This man will make you want to fall to your knees and worship him.  Daaaaammmmnnn, is it hot in here??  He is not at all like you think from previous glimpses of him.  I think he might be my favorite character which is saying a lot.  He is the man you need to be scared of, the villain, but he is also the man you crave.  He is the one who will help you rule the world and give you everything you desire.  He is the King!  Will Diego be the White King in Vee’s world or is he another notch in her nightmares?

Women make me weak.  You will make me weak.
I guess we’re even then, Villains are my weakness.

Vee was a surprise!  OMG this woman you was hellbent on revenge!  Bow down to her badass nature...bow down!  Nice Kristi, freaking nice!!  AHHHHH.  Vee came across as spoiled, and selfish in previous books and I think she still is a little bit, but this girl has so much fire, strength...its just wow!!

The chemistry between these two is electric, deadly, intoxicating.  They were each other’s light and dark...the angel and the devil.  They had a connection that was not going to be easily severed and I felt that they would go to hell and back for each other.  They would rule the world together...The King and The Queen and everyone would bow down to them.  It was seductive and provocative...holy crap was it!

I’m pretty sure that look she’s giving me is going to bring me to my knees one day.  That look will be my demise.

Kristi that epilogue...lady are you trying to kill us?  I swear you are!  I can’t wait for more and I will be so sad when the series ends.  Can we have like 20 plus book please...lol!  This was dark, romantic, sexy, bloody and down right irresistible.  I love it!  5 Mi Diablita Stars!

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

Brooklynn

“There’s a song on the record called ‘Sanity,’ and I co-wrote it with this fucking gorgeous woman right here. It will debut on the radio in just a couple of weeks.” A stage tech ran out, and while Levi continued to tease the fans, they attached a wireless mic to my cheek. “So! Have you guessed what your surprise is?” he shouted. “You guys get to be the first to hear it!” Their response is epic and they went crazier still when Matteo started beating a low, steady rhythm on his floor tom. Then he transitioned into the fast and heavy, hard rock beat. Simon and Levi joined him, and a couple of bars later, I opened my mouth and sang the most important notes I’d ever sung in my life. As I sang the first verse, the world began to melt away completely, leaving only Levi and me. When he began to sing his lyrics, our lines clashing and emoting the first stage of crazy, our eyes were already locked. We reached the first chorus and Sasha added her haunting violin. The cacophony of sounds built up the tension inside me. In the safety of the stage and a huge audience, I finally let loose all the caged passion I’d kept locked up tight. We were approaching the section with the instrumental solos, and Levi’s voice dropped so low that the arena fell silent, the audience mesmerized by him. As he crooned the lyrics about love and a broken mind, he faced me and when he reached the break, he faded out completely. The audience reacted to Matteo, Simon, and Sasha with the same exuberance as they had when Levi and I had been singing. Sasha finished her solo, transitioning into the most intense part of the song. I didn’t even think, too wrapped up in the music. My mouth opened, and I let every repressed emotion I had for Levi pour from my soul. The cello’s rich strains crescendoed, and Levi I circled each other on the stage. I stared into those aqua eyes, captivated by the dark swirl of need that he wasn’t even attempting to hide. Each time we sang together, our voices melded, creating a sound that had shivers coursing through my body. We hit the pinnacle of the song and then the last notes were solemn, the lyrics about giving in to the insanity of love and drowning in the crazy. Levi wandered over to me and his hand came up to cup my cheek. I was overwhelmed by the thick atmosphere, so full of lust and emotion, as though our voices were engaged in dirty, sweaty sex. The other instruments faded out, and all that was left was the smooth, dark melody coming from Sasha’s cello. She pulled the bow slowly on the last note, and it hung in the air, the only sound in the otherwise complete silence in the arena. The lights descended until it was almost completely dark. I was still glued to Levi’s intense stare until I could no longer see him, but I could feel him. The connection was severed when the world around us erupted. The lights went back up and he put on his most charming smile before turning to the audience and throwing his hands into the air. “She’s amazing, right?” he shouted, receiving an even louder roar of applause in response.

I’m married to my very own book boyfriend, an alpha male with a sexy, sweet side. He is the best inspiration, my biggest supporter, and the love of my life. She barged into my life and easily became my best friend.
All was great as roommates and just friends, but then I fell for the girl who could chop firewood, deliver baby calves, and bail hay without breaking a sweat.
She's the perfect mixture of sugar and spice, and I love her.

Being more than friends and trying to build our future isn't as easy as it sounds.
Moving forward and creating memories is all I want for us, but when the past continues to come back and haunt me, I'm not so sure she'll stay for the ride.

Checkmate, sweetheart.

REVIEW - 4.5 STARS

Kennedy’s Fox’s newest in the Checkmate Series, This is Reckless, has finally given us Drew and Courtney’s story. I have been waiting to read about them since Viola and Travis’s story. This book does not disappoint- but WARNING: There is an epic cliffhanger that leaves us in suspense until April for the continuation of Drew and Courtney.

Drew, a police officer for the Sacramento PD, and Courtney, best friend to his sister Viola and computer guru for Travis’s company are roommates. Courtney has had is bad for him ever since she met him but figures that being friends and roommates while firmly in the friend zone is better than nothing. It doesn’t help that Drew has an on again, off again crazy bitch girlfriend Mia that is constantly in and out of the picture. One day Drew will see Mia for who she truly is, Courtney just hopes that it is sooner than later.

On the night of Viola and Travis’s wedding, Drew (who is again single) and Courtney get horribly drunk and wake up naked in bed. Courtney doesn’t think that Drew remembers the night before and tries to go on as if nothing happened. When is becomes evident that Drew does in fact remember every detail, the two of them embark on a new and cautious relationship. It doesn’t help that crazy bitch Mia keeps popping her head back in thinking that she and Drew will be together again.
Courtney loves Drew, but dealing with psycho Mia is a little much to deal with sometimes. It doesn’t matter how many times Drew tells her she’s it and Mia means nothing, the history that is there unnerves her still. Drew is all in with Courtney and loves everything about her.

I really liked how Drew and Courtney got together somewhat early in the story and we didn’t have to get to the very end before they became a couple. It was great to watch Drew finally realize what was standing right in front of him. Courtney waited a long time for Drew to finally notice her, and once he does he’s a goner. They really are perfect for each other.

This was a five star read for me up until the very end. I have a love hate relationship with cliffhangers. I love them because it means that there is going to be more of the story, but I hate them for having to wait to read it. Luckily, the wait is pretty short and we can read their continuation soon. What I disliked was what the cliffhanger was. I loved 99.9% of the story, and it’s probably just me, but I didn’t love what happened right at the end. I know in my gut that everything will work out, but personally it just didn’t do it for me. That being said, everything else in this story was gold and I can’t wait to read what happens!

Check out Book 1 in Drew & Courtney's Duet!

Introducing book 1 in the new Checkmate Duet Series from a secret duo of bestselling authors! This friends to lovers romance will have you swooning and laughing from the first to the last page! Are you ready to play the game?

Drew Fisher is the type of guy every girl wants.
Noble police officer by day, charming prince by night.
He has no idea the effect he has on women, especially me—his little sister’s best friend.

I’m the blonde Southern belle who lives up to the cliché, except I have my own quirks. I’m smart as a whip, can change my own oil, and recite The Pledge of Allegiance backward, but he doesn’t see that girl.

It’d be easier to forget him if he wasn’t my roommate and if the first thing I saw in the morning wasn't his shirtless body covered in tattoos. I’ve crushed on him since the day we met, but he’s made it perfectly clear where we stand. Just friends.

I know I need to move on and accept that his feelings will never be mutual, but every day he smiles at me, I’m left dreaming of what if.

He has girl issues, and I’ve got a crush I can’t deny.
We’re friends, but I want more.

One drunken hookup leaves us with much more than a platonic friendship. Pretending it never happened proves to be more difficult than anticipated.

A crazy ex-girlfriend, a dangerous war of stolen glances, and passionate kisses leads to the most reckless battle yet. I won’t be a pawn in his game, but I’ll play by his rules if it will show him I’m the one worth breaking them for.

Checkmate, Prince Charming.

*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*

**This is book 1 of 2 in the Checkmate Duet Series--a friends to lovers romance. Highly recommended to read the Checkmate Duet, This is War and This is Love first, but not necessary. This can read as a standalone duet.**

REVIEW - 5 STARS

This was EVERYTHING!!

Samuel Clearwater. You’re my everything. Because you are the light in all of my dark.

Preppy Preppy Preppy! I am so sad this series is over. What a way to close it out T.m Frazier! This book was everything I wanted it too be and more. You took a beloved character and made him even more lovable. Preppy….sigh...I am really sad. I have sat and thought about how to do this review for over a week and I still don’t have the right words to convey how much I loved this book or series. Talk about speechless and that is something I never am.

Samuel “Preppy” Clearwater is a character that is going to stay in my heart forever. He was a complex character with many different sides too him. I fell for this crazy, geeky, dark and hilarious man in King. He just had this aura about him that c’mon you couldn’t help but love him, he was such a passionate character. Dre this is a girl after my own heart. She was the perfect match for him and when we were introduced to her, I knew she was the one who would accept him for the man he was. She didn’t want him to change from his ways and it was a beautiful story. As crazy and silly as that man could be, I wouldn’t have it any other way. It took a lot of crazy to put up with me and Samuel Clearwater was my kind of crazy.
This has a little humor, a little healing, a lot of love and protecting your family, no matter what. It also has “vintage” Preppy...or the Preppy we first met..LOL

This. This is my life. YOU are my life
I loved the Preppy and Dre’s story. It was dark, beautiful and crazy. Their relationship started in the most unusual way and they had a lot to overcome, but you definitely felt the love and lust between them.
This story picks up right where we left off in Preppy part Two after a shocking cliffhanger. I instantly was sucked back into the story and kept wondering where Tracey was going to go with this next. She paints such vivid scenes its so easy to picture the surroundings, their faces and their fears..seriously T.m. is so talented its crazy!
Anyway, back to a little summary...Preppy is questioning everyone in his life of who he can trust except for those who have never left his side...King, Bear, Thia and Doe. He wants answers of who is dead set on destroying his family. Who keeps messing with Dre and whoever it is, is gonna pay. He will make them bleed for hurting him, her and anyone else he loves. This is told from both Preppy and Dre’s POV. You get some suspense thrown in like normal, but this had a different vibe than the previous books. It had a “satisfied tying up loose ends” feel. Not just for Preppy, but for all of them or at least I felt that way.

"The greatest gift I was ever given, was death. Because only then did I learn what it meant to truly live."

This story took some unexpected twists and turns. I will say the last few chapters I was beyond shocked. HOLY SHIT!! It was so shocking, I think I sat there with my mouth open and was like WTF! OMG! WHAT!! I was so surprised, but it was perfect! What a freaking ride this whole series has been. T.m. Frazier is the master at shocking the shit out of you! BUT the one thing that I loved most about Preppy’s books...was how he grew as a character and was able to let some of those walls down and actually feel...actually love. He has this gritty, dark side, but he also showed his lovable softer side in this...swoon!! Preppy is 100% protective and you better watch out if you screw with something that belongs to him or that he loves. We also get some glimpses of his past childhood through out the series and I adored that. It just showed how much King, Bear and Prep were a family. These guys have each others backs through everything. There were a few times that I did shed some tears. One moment was between him and King...oh lord...talk about a bromance with these guys.

T.m did a phenomenal job with this series and I am so sad to see it come to an end. She answered every question I ever had...she didn’t leave us hanging. You get your happily ever after, it may not be conventional, but it is a perfect ending. Friendship, love, family! This was sweet, funny and sexy. It was also gritty, violent and all kinds of dirty...oh yes! Again it was perfection for me! 5 Plus Stars!
family to me was everything, but the saying that blood was thicker than water didn't mean jack shit to me because I knew who my family was and blood was something we spilled for one another, not shared.
